Cycling

Eyewear for cycling is not only for protection against harmful UV radiation and glare, but also from road hazards. Wind, rain, bugs, small rocks . . . all present hazards for cyclists. You want a fit that wraps around the face to protect your peripheral vision against glare as well as wind. The fit should allow for some airflow behind and around the lenses to help prevent fogging. Running

Running eyewear should fit comfortably while providing good protection from glare, wind and airborne particles. They should also be lightweight and durable. Weight is crucial, particularly during long runs. Frames should also have rubber or composite nosepieces and temple grips. These help keep the glasses in place at all times.

Look for polycarbonate lenses which are shatterproof and offer scratch resistance. They should also offer 100% protection against UVA and UVB rays. Determine which is the best lens color for your climate and running conditions. As a general rule, the darker the sky, the lighter the lens should be and vice versa.

Tennis

These following styles offer light weight (less than 1 oz.) combined with the incredible strength of the Aruba Sport TR90 nylon frame. The blue Titanium lens coatings block portions of the light spectrum to provide more contrast between light and dark objects, i.e., tennis balls and the court surface.

Water Sports

In water sports, such as boating, sailing, kayaking and fishing, glare off the water is the biggest cause of eye fatigue. The polarized lens is the most effective glare reducing lens.

By eliminating almost all of the glare from the water, eye fatigue is greatly reduced and visual acuity is enhanced. We recommend polarized lenses for all on-the-water activities.

Beach Volleyball

This sport demands a tough, lightweight frame with an anti-glare, scratch resistant, shatterproof lens. Most of the eyewear worn for this sport utilizes a polycarbonate frame and lens combination which meets the above criteria. Glasses should also have rubber or composite nosepiece and temple pieces for gripping the head when wet. Recently, a new frame material has become popular—nylon. Nylon is generally lighter and more flexible than polycarbonate. Many athletes who wear nylon frames claim they are unaware they are wearing sunglasses. At Aruba Sport, we have both polycarbonate and Aruba Sport Nylon frames.

Lenses should be durable, offer good visual acuity and give good glare protection. We offer both polarized and anti-glare non-polarized lenses. Check our Resources Page for a more detailed explanation of lenses.

Driving

Driving eyewear should be comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Correct glasses will provide good coverage from glare caused by sunlight and reflections from other vehicles and bright objects on the road. Polarized lenses are very popular as are amber or copper colored lenses. Polarization offers maximum glare protection. Amber, copper and green lenses are good for varying light conditions such as partly cloudy days or driving through partially shaded areas.

Motorcycle

Motorcycle glasses should provide good protection from glare, wind and airborne objects, while adhering to the head. They should allow just enough airflow behind the lenses to prevent buildup of heat and moisture, but not enough to dry out the eyes.
